Description
The craftsman has valued this piece at $250.00. This wooden turntable was created from the wood of an Ulmus pumila, Siberian elm, a Heritage tree in Darts Hill Garden Park. The turntable measures 12” wide x 2” high.
During the early morning of July 30, 2018 the Heritage Siberian elm, Ulmus pumila, growing along Sequoia Walk in Darts Hill Garden Park, at the northern limit of Bed 8 collapsed, causing significant damage to the garden. The trunk and a major scaffold branch failed. A local contractor removed the elm debris via a huge crane, lifting the huge branches high over Darts House and depositing them on the garden access road in the volunteer parking area prior to chipping. The entire tree was removed with the stump ground out later. The failure of this huge Heritage tree was unfortunate but a good portion of the useable wood of the Siberian elm trunk was collected by members of the Fraser Valley Woodturners Guild (FVWG). Craftsman Gary Burns created this exquisite piece of functional art.
